Optimal infrastructure for Glanerbrook
The renovated Sportpark Glanerbrook will be an impressive place: multiple swimming pools, spacious sports halls, a brand new ice hall, extensive catering facilities and, outside, a cycling track and an indoor skating rink. And with as many as 5,200 solar panels, a smart battery of 2,150 kWh and an advanced energy management system, the sports park will also be greener than ever. A project that brings together everything Fudura has to offer - and that makes it extra special.

With this system, we control energy consumption in real time, fully tailored to the demand of the moment.
The energy transition in practice
Steven, Solution Engineer at Fudura: "The municipality of Sittard-Geleen wants to make Glanerbrook the first sports complex in the Netherlands to generate as much energy as it consumes. An enormous ambition that requires pioneering. Together with the construction team, we are coming up with new, smart solutions to make that possible."
A sports park ready for tomorrow
Heating swimming water, making ice skates, charging electric cars - everything requires quite a bit of energy. Sportpark Glanerbrook is taking a big step: from a complex with high gas and electricity consumption to an all-electric system that uses half as much energy. And that without compromising on performance.
What's needed for that? Solar panels, a battery, transformers, energy meters and 50 charging points. These are all components that Fudura supplies, installs and manages for Sportpark Glanerbrook. This ensures energy security even when Glanerbrook has peak load - such as when making ice for the outdoor ice rink. At the same time, because it is colder outside in the winter, they then need less cooling power. That cooling power is actually needed more in the summer; that is fine because there is a relatively large amount of solar power available then. Does the energy supply and demand not match for a while? Then there is the battery, which can temporarily step in to compensate.
This system also lowers energy costs: through smart generation and smart purchasing of power. If feeding power back to the grid is expensive, Fudura can also switch off some of the solar panels. Or use the extra energy to heat the water in the outdoor pool, for example, so that people can come swimming as early as June. No other sports park has an integrated system in which so many components are cleverly controlled.
Steer smart, save smart
Those kinds of smart choices, the system will soon be making them continuously. Because the panels, grid power, battery and consumption in and around the building: everything is connected. Based on those measurements and what Fudura inputs, the system makes adjustments. Like: charging the vehicles a little slower in winter, so the building stays warm. The system always chooses the option that offers the most financial and functional benefits. The result? Lower costs, higher revenues and a positive impact for visitors. Affordable tickets, economical electric charging, longer enjoyment of ice skating and warm swimming water - that's how far the impact of smart energy management goes.
A 10-meter battery and fireproof in every detail
An engineering marvel is the battery that has stood next to the complex since February. Ten meters long, two meters high and good for 2,150 kWh of storage capacity. That's about the energy generated by the solar panels on a sunny day in spring or autumn.
Safety is paramount: the battery is located 10 meters away from the building, is built completely fireproof and is monitored per cell for temperature and voltage. Are there any abnormalities? Then the system immediately switches off that part of the battery.
Currently, the renovated sports park and the new energy infrastructure are being realized. Fudura is looking forward to driving this innovative energy system in the best possible way. And one thing is certain: Sportpark Glanerbrook sets the tone for the future.
